They grow up so fast - 1.10

Here it is! The finale that we've all been waiting for. I am expecting SpaceX to send over my commissions within the next week, and a rep. from NASA has been in contact with me regarding the design of their next ship.      All jokes aside, I am honestly thrilled with the way that this turned out. The 'holder' is finally a free standing object, and the rocket itself has many detachable parts -but actually looks like a rocket. So, cue some Frank Sinatra while we fly to the moon and explore what this project had in store for me.     Below is a screen shot of how I handed the file to Bryan for the laser cut!     It can be noted that I largely kept the properties of the original design. I already knew from the prototype that this was a process that worked and me trying these new ways at making the rocket, I was honestly a bit scared of the outcome. So I printed extra in case anything went wrong (such as pieces falli...

Space doesn't even stand a chance - 1.9

After many hours of cutting and folding and cutting and folding (then a bit of glueing) then more cutting and folding, and, well, you get the point; it is complete. There were, admittedly, a few hiccups along the way but nothing too much for me to handle. Anyway, please, do read on to share in my victorious outcome! After scoring all the lines on the paper, I turned to cutting which, yes was a breeze but also required a lot of concentration and time. I quickly got comfortable with the blade and was off-to-the-races cutting longer lines without any assistance (I felt pretty proud of myself for this).  After cutting was complete, glueing was the next stage. Going into this I was expecting the entire process to be easier than it was but that definitely was not my reality.  In the main body I had to find various long objects from around the house to hold and press things together. In the rocket parts I soon realized that I got over zealous in my original design and made/prin...

Brain to Paper - 1.8

Honestly I think that this step is the most surreal of them all. The fact that we are now taking an idea that was once in our head, creating it in a program that we only learned a few weeks ago, and now taking it so far as to be printed and re-created materially. This whole process is continuing to blow my mind and providing what would be one of the most euphoric experiences I have ever had thus far. This is why art means so much to me, it's a process to make dreams come to life.       In other news, the reason that I wasn't able to get this done by Sunday was because of many prior commitments (i.e work and other classes) and the fact that I would have to set aside a 5 hour time frame to be able to print it. Here we are though, 30 minutes to class and I am writing this blog to say that I finally got it 'hot off the press'. This is my process and how it came to be:      During my most previous drawing class with Paul Hudson, the late...
